Martin Bowman

Martin Bowman is a Montreal native of Scots parentage. While studying in Edinburgh he met Bill Findlay with whom he has co-translated ten Quebec plays into vernacular Scots. Of these, seven have been plays by Quebec playwright Michel Tremblay: The Guid Sisters (Tron Theatre, Glasgow, 1989, 1990, 1992), The Real Wurld? (Tron Theatre, 1991), Hosanna (Tron Theatre, 1991), The House among the Stars (Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, 1992; Perth Theatre, 1993) Forever Yours, Marie-Lou (LadderMan Productions, 1994), Albertine, in Five Times (Clyde Unity, 1998), and Solemn Mass for a Full Moon in Summer (scheduled for 2000). Edinburgh-based Stellar Quines will produce Jeanne-Mance Delisle's The Reel of the Hanged Man in 2000. Yet to be produced are Dominic Champagne's The Rehearsal and Michel-Marc Bouchard's The Skelfs (Les feluettes).

 

With Wajdi Mouawad he has co-translated Trainspotting (Théâtre de Quat'Sous, Montreal, 1998) and Enda Walsh's Disco Pigs (Théâtre de Poche, Brussels, 1999).
