The Times Stephen Spender Prize for Poetry in TranslationThe Times Stephen Spender Prize winners were announced on 25 October 2008
The Times and the Stephen Spender Memorial Trust hope to encourage and stimulate a new generation of literary translators. To obtain a free booklet containing winning translations and commentaries, please email: info@stephenspender.org. Prizes are awarded in three categories; 14 and under, 18 and under and Open. The winners are as follows:
14 and under Joint 1st: Paula Alonso-Lalanda, ‘Let’s Go to the Market!’ by Gloria Fuertes (Spanish)
18 and under 1st: Daniel Galbraith, Amores I.V by Ovid (Latin) Open 1st: Imogen Halstead, Amores I.I by Ovid (Latin) Joint 3rd: Timothy Allen, an extract from ‘Broken Heart, New Lament’ by Nguyễn Du (Vietnamese)
