Asterix

Translating songs

These are less numerous, but tricky to translate. The French originals take a well-known song that can be slightly twisted to give it the Gaulish flavour, for example, Astérix Gladiateur / Asterix the Gladiator, p. 37.

The French is a well-known song about Ménilmontant, adapted to mention the typical Gaulish standing stones or menhirs carried about by Obelix; in English it becomes, ‘Love is a menhir splendid thing’.
